Wine & Moments

“The discovery of a wine is of greater moment than the discovery of a constellation. The universe is too full of stars.”  Benjamin Franklin

About a month ago I was attending what was to be the last meeting outside the online environment of us, the wine lovers. The wine tasting of Collefrisio brought us together and prepared us for what was to come, a long time at home, where we would also have the opportunity to our favorite wines.

The host of the  beautiful evening was Herbert Szasz or as he is known in the world of wines, WineHunter. He presented in an absolutely relaxed and easy way the secrets behind the Collefrisio wines. Although this event had to be attended by the official wine importer in Romania, Tito Galanti, but also by one of the winemakers of the Collefrisio winery, Antonio Patricelli, the current situation did not allow this. We enjoyed at the end of the beautiful evening a greeting sent by Antonio to everyone present.

Beautiful moments are always accompanied by selected wines. In the current context in which Italy faces this absolutely dramatic situation, we would like to thank all the friends of Italy in the wonderful world of wine for their hospitality they have shown towards us and we wish them to overcome these moments well. From our side we can help them with the promotion of the wines we loved and whose story we present with pleasure every time.

Herbert is a real presence, and his experience in the field is observed by the way of explaining and providing the necessary information, without going too technical, but enough for everyone present to understand the story of  the wines, from the vineyard up to to the wonderful liquor in the glasses. Also the location is absolutely suitable for these tastings, Old Town Bar & Prosciutteria is noted for its apperance that introduces you to the pleasant atmosphere of wine tastings.

The Collefrisio vineyard was born in an area known for wine culture, in the Abruzzo region, on the Frisei hills in the province of Chieti, having an extremely favorable geographical context with influences from the mountain and from the sea, thus obtaining an ideal climate for wine and for grapes, because, we know very well, the quality starts from the vineyard. Collefrisio is currently in the third generation of winemakers, Amedeo De Luca and Antonio Patricelli

The tasting included 5 wonderful wines, 5 wines that whisper a story and make us fall in love with them. The evening debuted with Collefrisio Vignaquadra Pecorino, a wine made from 100% Pecorino. The wine is noted for its beautiful yellow straw color, strong notes of green tea and peach, it is well balanced with a persistent aftertaste. The evening continued with the next white wine, Collefrisio Confronto Bianco, a blend obtained from Pinot Grigio and Pecorino. Subtle notes of apples, bananas, chamomile and mulberry, but with a well-balanced acidity. The transition to red wines followed, and our taste buds were entertained with Apassimento, obtained from 60% Montepulciano d`Abruzzo, 20% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot – three varieties that carry out this love dance in a wonderful blend. The wine has an intense ruby red color, persistent notes of ripe cherries and plum, with slightly spicy notes on the end. We stayed in the red wine zone with Collefrisio In & Out. Made from 100% Montepulciano d`Abruzzo, it is an elegant wine, soft and with a persistent aftertaste, with subtle notes of red fruits, ripe fruit and spicy notes on the end. The evening ended with a special wine, Collefrisio Sotto Sopra, a sweet wine, traditional in the Abruzzo area, a wine obtained from Montepulciano d`Abruzzo but to which it is added, cherry liqueur, being a wine that is to be served cold.
