A Toast to Romania’s Wine Heritage

Romania has long been an underappreciated gem in the global wine industry, producing exceptional wines with unique character. Helmuth Koecher, founder and president of the Merano Wine Festival in Italy, once said:

“I discovered Romania in the 2000s and I was surprised to find very special wines, with a strong personality, character, and tone. Romania simply has to promote its own wine varieties. I am positive they will be a hit on the international market.”

RO-Wine takes on this mission, putting Romania’s wine heritage in the spotlight while fostering international collaboration and appreciation.

A few words about the organizers

At the heart of RO-Wine are four industry leaders—each bringing their unique expertise, passion, and commitment to elevating Romania’s wine culture onto the international stage.

Marinela Vasilica Ardelean – The Wine Visionary

A driving force behind the Romanian wine revolution, Marinela Ardelean is one of the most influential wine experts in the country. With thousands of wine reviews, multiple editions of “Wine Book of Romania”, and the creation of WinesOfRomania.com, she has tirelessly worked to showcase the uniqueness of Romanian and Moldovan wines to the world.

Beyond being a renowned wine author, educator, and brand strategist, Marinela is a true ambassador of premium Romanian wines. RO-Wine remains one of her most impactful projects, serving as the ultimate bridge between local excellence and global recognition.

Liviu Popescu – The Hospitality Strategist

A key figure in Romania’s HoReCa industry, Liviu Popescu has made a name for himself as a co-owner of Fratelli Group, one of the most prestigious hospitality brands in the country. With his deep understanding of public relations, brand development, and business strategy, he has helped shape the festival into an essential meeting point for wine producers and hospitality professionals.

In 2016, his passion for fine wine led him to co-found RO-Wine, a festival that not only celebrates great wines but also connects them with the right audience—distributors, restaurateurs, and true connoisseurs. Through LP Hospitality Consulting, Liviu continues to mentor entrepreneurs in the field, ensuring that Romania’s hospitality sector thrives.

Mihai Popescu – The Creative Architect of RO-Wine

A visionary designer and entrepreneur, Mihai Popescu has left an unmistakable mark on Romania’s hospitality scene. With over 15 years of experience and more than 100 high-end restaurants, bars, and clubs designed, Mihai’s expertise is synonymous with innovation and elegance.

His Twins Studio is responsible for the festival’s unique atmosphere, transforming RO-Wine into more than just an exhibition—it’s an immersive, refined experience where design meets the artistry of winemaking. His award-winning creativity ensures that each edition of the festival is a visual and sensory delight.

Helmuth Koecher – The International Seal of Approval

A legendary figure in the world of fine wine, Helmuth Koecher, founder and president of Merano Wine Festival in Italy, was among the first international experts to recognize Romania’s potential as a global wine player.

“I discovered Romania in the 2000s and was surprised to find very special wines, with a strong personality, character, and tone. Romania simply has to promote its own wine varieties. I am positive they will be a hit on the international market.”

His words continue to inspire and validate the mission of RO-Wine—to position Romanian wines among the world’s finest.

RO-Wine was built on a shared vision—to elevate Romanian wines, create meaningful connections in the industry, and offer consumers an extraordinary experience. After ten years of success, the festival continues to grow, innovate, and inspire, proving that Romania is a rising star in the global wine scene.

As Cluj-Napoca prepares to host RO-Wine 2025 on March 22-23, the legacy of these passionate organizers will once again come to life—one exquisite glass at a time. 🍷✨
