Alba Iulia Sets Guinness World Record with Longest Recycled Table
Alba Iulia Enters Guinness World Records on September 13 with the World’s Longest Table Made Entirely from Recycled Materials
The organizers, Bloom The World, together with their partners, built a table over 2.7 kilometers long, where more than 10,000 guests from Romania and abroad took their seats.
History was made this weekend in Alba Iulia. The city has once again entered the Guinness World Records, this time for the longest table built entirely from recycled materials. The initiative belongs to Bloom The World and its strategic partners, who organized, on September 13, the event “The Table That Unites”. More than 10,000 guests from Transylvania, as well as countries such as the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, and Nepal, sat at the community table stretching over 2.7 kilometers around Alba Carolina Citadel. This marks Alba Iulia’s third Guinness World Records title, following those in 2009 (The Great Embrace of Alba Carolina Citadel) and in 2018 (The Largest Human-Made Map of a Country).
How the Record Was Certified
The concept of a table made from recycled materials is unique — no one in the world has ever achieved such a record before. The certification process for the longest recycled-material table was rigorous, including: official supplier statements regarding the recyclability of the materials, construction according to strict rules, measurement by an authorized surveyor in the presence of two witnesses, and the result announced during a special public ceremony attended by both locals and international visitors.
Guinness World Records representative Seyda Subasi-Gemici, who traveled from Turkey, praised the event’s flawless organization:
“The minimum length required to set the record was 2,700 meters, and the organizers achieved 2,782.96 meters. It is my honor to officially announce a new record for the longest table made from recycled materials, set by Bloom The World. Congratulations! You are officially amazing!”
Thousands of people celebrated and applauded this achievement, which will significantly raise the city’s visibility.
Alexa Vîlcan, General Director of Bloom The World, shared:
“I said it on stage as well: I believe this was the most human record in the world. For me, the event on September 13 meant peace — being home with my loved ones. We proved that the impossible can become possible when there is unity and respect. There were so many memorable moments that filled my heart with joy. On one hand, seeing 10,000 people seated at the tables, respectful and eager to socialize — for that, we are grateful. On the other, witnessing thousands of people rejoicing with us when Guinness World Records confirmed the achievement. For sure, The Table That Unites project will grow even more beautifully from here.”
The Role of Local Authorities
This project was closely supported by the Alba Iulia City Hall. Numerous meetings and consultations were held to identify and implement solutions for each challenge in the preparation process. The municipality acted as a reliable partner, mobilizing essential services and departments to ensure the event’s success.
Mayor Gabriel Codru Pleșa stated:
“The Table That Unites was a memorable experience that placed Alba Iulia in the spotlight both nationally and internationally. Through its scale and uniqueness, the event became a tourism ambassador for the city, showing that Alba Iulia is not only about history and tradition, but also about a community capable of creating extraordinary moments. It highlighted the image of a united, welcoming, and vibrant community, while also transforming Alba Iulia into a space of records and innovation. The Alba Carolina Citadel is not just a historic monument — it is a place that inspires people to gather, to create projects and events, to play, walk, and enjoy a space that has stood the test of time. Anyone with creative and constructive ideas for such projects is welcome to share them here, in Alba Iulia, a city open to initiatives that bring value to the community. I congratulate all those involved in this large-scale project that promotes Alba Iulia tourism.”
A Dream Brought to Life by Local Companies
The dream of creating a record-breaking table from recycled materials was born at… a table. During a discussion about floral arrangements for a wedding, Alexa Vîlcan met Karina Dura (administrator of Dupex) and Ioan Rîstei (administrator of Traust Construct), and the idea of Guinness World Records came up.
Karina Dura recalled:
“When we learned that Alexa wanted to build a giant table, we asked how we could help. We started looking at materials from our own activities and thought of ways to make this happen with recycled components. Traust Construct suggested using Doka panels, which they normally use in construction. Later, we created a prototype with two pallets, two Doka panels, two wooden beams, and eight screws. That’s how our story began.”
Cartonero – the Cardboard Packaging Factory – later joined in, creating the enormous recycled cardboard tablecloth, printed and mounted on 1,600 sheets. All partners not only provided materials but also sent workers who volunteered to help assemble the record-breaking table.
Alexandru Urban, administrator of Cartonero, said:
“For us, it was a dream come true and a source of gratitude to be a key part of this unique project. Through our work, we united everything at one table and experienced the joy of making history together.”
Looking Ahead: What’s Next for The Table That Unites
Organizers emphasize that the Guinness World Record is not an endpoint, but a new beginning. Under the umbrella of The Table That Unites, they aim to continue promoting the project’s values: unity, community, and respect. Their vision is to put Romania on the world map through culture, gastronomy, and hospitality, showing that the country can serve as an example of creativity and solidarity.
The September 13 edition of The Table That Unites was organized by Bloom The World, Magic Maker Communication, 11even Association, AVA Smart Events, and Vânzător de Idei, with the support of the Alba Iulia Municipality.
